The List

                I knew it was a mad thing to do.  I don’t know why I did it.  I knew it was mad thing to do and yet I still did it.

                And, to make matters worse, I wanted to tell someone and, finally, I found the right person to tell!

                The look she gave me said it all.  I immediately felt really stupid and juvenile.

                “What did you do that for?”

                “I don’t know,” I said.  “Curiousity?”

                “Destroy it!”

                “I will!” I said.

                “Please, destroy it!” she repeated.

                “I will, I promise.”

                She shook her head and sniggered silently.  “It’s like you’re saying, ‘Please, catch me!’”

                “Okay, okay!  As soon as I get home, I’ll delete the list.”

                She looked into my eyes to ensure I’d appreciated the severity of my mistake.  Satisfied, she carried on cutting her steak.

                “43,” I said.

                She looked up.  “Really?” she said, disbelievingly.

                I immediately began trying to style it out, like I was talking to a man.  “I’ve been in some very long relationships!”

                “Okay,” she said.  “I haven’t!  To be honest, I was a slut!”

                “Maybe one day I’ll catch up to you?”

                She smiled, wryly.  “I don’t think you will!”
